I used to wonder what was so great about Photoshop. I had often heard of it’s use by photographers and how it could be used to falsify photographs of real world objects. Then, as an artist, I learned that it could be useful from a illustrator’s point of view. This book opens up all the aspects of photoshop that are not apparent from the many menu and dialog items available in the application itself. It provides examples of how to use Photoshop to its fullest. Now I think I have an idea why it is so expensive! It is just an excellent piece of software! I can only say that because of this book. It has opened up possibilities that I have not even dreamed of before, and has widened my artistic horizons.

Excellent book for learning how to use the basics of Photoshop CS4. Step by step processes which help to keep the overwhelming new experience manageable. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to use the program.

My workplace purchased a copy of Photoshop CS 4, and I purchased this book to help me learn it. Nowhere on the covers did it specify that there are two versions of Photoshop CS4, and that this book had material that was only applicable to the more expensive piece of software. It got very confusing when the author treated the software as if everyone had a single version.

So for those of us who don’t have the 3d tools nor the video editing capabilities, 3 out of the 14 chapters will not be very useful, because you won’t be able to complete them. That makes a 20% loss just from the authors not being up front about what they are teaching. They should have called the book “Adobe Photoshop CS4 Enhanced Edition Digital Classroom.”

The rest of the book is well written, and presents the material clearly and concisely.

This series of training books provided my team with the up to date training necessary to stay competitive. With quick access to the new features in CS4 we were able to get up to speed quickly and efficiently! I would recommend this series to anyone getting into Adobe’s Creative Suite, or professionals that need a brush up of their skills.

I read reviews on this book (and reviews of other books teaching CS4) and I also checked it out at the library before buying. The book is well worth the cost and a must have for any photoshop user.
